The MOT TermLink service offers a quick and handy way to add your organization’s own words and translations into the MOT Dictionaries service in MOT Online by creating what are called personal dictionaries for your organization. TermLink credentials are sent to the people who produce content for the organization’s own dictionaries. After logging in, a dictionary content producer will be able to download a MOT TermLink Excel template, fill in the template with the organization’s dictionary content following the instructions in the template, upload the template into the MOT TermLink service, and immediately publish it to all MOT users within the organization. The new dictionary will appear as the first dictionary in MOT Dictionaries’ dictionary selection. With TermLink creating, publishing, updating and deleting an organization’s own dictionaries is easy and quick. If you need help when you start using MOT TermLink, our support service at support@kielikone.fi will be happy to help.

Useful tips: MOT Dictionaries

If you’d like to look up words in several dictionaries in one search, make a dictionary group. Start creating a dictionary group by clicking the plus button   next to the Select dictionary dropdown. Check the dictionaries you want to include in the group and click the Save button below the list. This will save and activate your dictionary group, as you can see in the Select dictionary dropdown.

You can define and save one dictionary group at a time. MOT will remember your group so you can start using it again later simply by choosing Multiple dictionary selection in the Select dictionary dropdown.

If you don’t seem to find the word you’re looking for using the Basic search, try the Extended search. Extended search looks up all instances of your search word in the active dictionary which means that in addition to headwords also usage examples and phrases are used in the search. Select Extended search in the dropdown below the Select search mode text.

When you’re not quite sure how to spell a search word, Near matches is a great help. The Near matches search finds in the active dictionary headwords which sound like your search word. This feature works best for English and Finnish words. For example, if you try to look up the word “consious”, in a Near matches search MOT will display the correct word “conscious”. Select Near matches in the dropdown below the Select search mode text.
